We’re looking for volunteers!
“The SCSN is a unique organisation providing membership support in the community safety field. Our aim is simple – safer communities – but our ambition is huge! We are seeking enthusiastic, skilled individuals to support us by becoming board directors. These positions are unpaid but priceless in terms of the sense of achievement you will have as you guide us into our exciting future. If you want to be part of this – check out our advert here – we are especially looking for someone with financial experience to become our treasurer.” – SCSN Chief Officer, Lorraine Gillies
Who are we?
The Scottish Community Safety Network (The SCSN) are looking for volunteers to support our administration or project based work.
SCSN is a registered Scottish Charity (SC357649) and Company Limited by Guarantee in Scotland (SC040464). We are primarily a membership organisation that brings together representatives from across the community safety sector to achieve a shared vision.
We are the strategic voice for community safety in Scotland and through working collaboratively with our members and partner agencies aim to:
- Provide leadership and be a centre of excellence for the community safety sector
- Champion community safety and influence the shaping and development of national policy and local delivery
- Be a collaborative learning, developing and sustainable network.
The SCSN continues to go from strength to strength and is a financially stable and viable organisation.
We are interested in appointing new volunteers to support our delivery of support to Community Safety Partnerships in Scotland. Applicants may have a broad range of skills which may have been gained across a range of sectors. This may include experience in the community safety sector but we are also interested in applicants who have skills and experience in the following areas –
- Employment law
- Charity operation and/or governance.
- Events co-ordination
- Data collection and analysis
In addition, we are keen to attract applicants who reflect the diversity of the Scottish population.
Tasks may include:
- Creation and administration of database and spreadsheets
- Organising events, delegate lists,
- Emailing and communicating with members
- Supporting our communications officer using social media and newsletter development.
Time commitment is flexible but we would ask for a minim of 1 day per month – upwards to 2 days per week.
We work a 4 day week, so we don’t work on Fridays.
The SCSN works flexibly and remotely across Scotland. Volunteers would be expected to work from home with regular in person meetings with the larger team and supervisors. Venues are across the central belt. Volunteers will need access to a laptop or computer and internet broadband or Wi-Fi.
These roles are unpaid with full reimbursement of travel expenses.
What’s in it for us?
Volunteering is good for everyone – we can access to super new people with a range of skills and experience. We get to be part of their journey into work or to fulfil other aims or goals. We won’t ask you to do anything we wouldn’t or couldn’t do ourselves.
What’s in it for you?
Our work is interesting, fast moving and varied. You will get a fulfilling experience with us and will broaden your skills set and experience. We will ensure you have regular support and supervision, a bunch of friendly workmates and any appropriate training.
